Check the Bathrooms
Make sure that you’re actually checking the toilets in each of the bathrooms. If they’re smaller then that it means they’re going to be even more susceptible to clogs and that’s definitely not something you’re going to want. Add in the fact that they’re going to give you lower water pressure and you’re definitely not going to be happy with that idea, right? It will mean more plumbing service for you in the future.
Check the Basement
Go into the basement or look into the crawlspace to see what you can find. You want to know if there’s anything leaking under the house because it could be causing problems for the foundation. If you don’t get under there (or at least get an inspector who does) you’re definitely going to be setting yourself up for potential problems and the need for extreme plumbing service. You don’t want to find out after you buy that the house you now own has some serious water damage going on.
Another way to check about plumbing service needs is to check out the water heater. You want to know that the water heater is working properly and you definitely want to be sure that it’s not leaking and that there’s no rust or corrosion anywhere. If you can take a close look and really inspect the water heater it’s going to give you a better understanding of what’s going on and you’ll be able to tell if it’s going to need plumbing service really soon. If there’s any kind of damage it’s definitely not a good sign.
Watch Out for Lead
Finally, you’re going to want to take a really close look at just what’s going on in those pipes. Look for the amount of lead pipes that they have. Really old homes might have a lot of lead in them. Some newer homes shouldn’t have any. You want to avoid lead as much as possible. If you’re not looking to pay for plumbing service to get lead pipes removed and replaced then you might want to avoid those homes that do have lead. That’s because there’s been a whole lot of health problems associated with lead and you would need some serious plumbing service to handle it.
When children especially get a lot of lead in their blood levels it can cause serious illness. You want to make sure that you’re not falling into that trap and that you don’t have to worry about lead getting into the water that you’re using to bathe or to drink. Even if you have just a few pipes that are made with lead it can be a problem. Look up what a lead pipe will look like and then be sure you’re watching out for that when you go to that next house tour. You want to keep your family safe, after all.
